The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued new guidance about recreational drone flights in controlled airspace. DJI is concerned this guidance may not provide access for recreational pilots to fly in parts of controlled airspace that are generally safe for flight.
DJI always advocates for our customers to be able to fly in safe areas while complying with applicable laws and regulations. We are reviewing the FAA’s guidance and how it affects recreational pilots who want to pursue creative, innovative and enjoyable flights with their drones.
Our current understanding is that the FAA’s Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC), which automatically authorizes professional drone flights in controlled airspace, will soon be available to recreational pilots as well.
